Scottish Routes Gathering Tour |
Official Scottish Routes Gathering Tours Three day trip to Inverness and Skye A showcase tour, bringing to life the very best that Scotland has to offer over three spectacular days. The tour leaves Edinburgh and heads north to the Cathedral City of Dunkeld nestling in the forested hills of Atholl in the southern Highlands. Then it is on to Blair Castle, seat of the Dukes of Atholl and their Private Army, the Atholl Highlanders. We will then wind our way through the wild Grampian Mountains to Aviemore and the Cairngorm National Park, where we will stop amid the ancient Caledonian Pineforest. The day ends with a visit to the moving Culloden Battlefield, site of the last battle fought on British soil. The second day begins with a boat trip on Loch Ness from Inverness to the ruins of Urquhart Castle, and a chance to do some Nessie spotting. Then it is on west through the mountains of Kintail to Eilean Donan Castle (from the film Highlander). From the castle it is a short hop over the bridge to the famous Isle of Skye, one of the most beautiful places on earth. We will make our way through the mesmeric Cuillin Mountains to Portree. On the last day we head to Armadale Castle, once seat of the Clan Donald, and visit one of the best clan museums in Scotland. Then it is onto the ferry and over the sea to Mallaig. The tour then passes the lovely White Sands of Morar to Glenfinnan, and jaw-dropping views down Loch Shiel. It was here Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard in 1745, and you can see the monument to the Jacobites. After a stop in Fort William we will pass through eerie Glencoe down to Stirling Castle for a photo stop and then back to Edinburgh. Rate - £190.00 per person
Two day trip to the Highlands Highland Perthshire is a magical land weaving breathtaking scenery with a long and bloody history. The tour leaves Edinburgh and heads over the Forth Bridge to Dunfermline – one time capital of Scotland. We will explore the huge Abbey and see where Robert the Bruce and St Margaret are buried. Then it’s on to Kinross and a chance to visit Loch Leven Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned by her own nobility. From there we head into the beautiful Scottish Highlands. Our first stop will be in the picturesque village of Dunkeld, where we will visit the 700 Cathedral before going for a fantastic walk in the nearby woodlands. The day finishes in the peaceful Victorian town of Pitlochry. We start the second day with a tour of Scotland’s smallest distillery: Edradour, before being enchanted by the magnificent Blair Castle, seat of the Dukes of Atholl and their Private Army, the Atholl Highlanders. After a short stop at the famous House of Bruar we take in the stunning Queen’s View and head west to the calm and dark waters of Loch Tay, hiding the secrets of the Campbells of Breadalbane. From here we return to Edinburgh via a quick stop under Stirling Castle where you will be entertained with tales of Wallace and Bruce. Rate - £110.00 per person
