Isle of Skye and Loch Ness 4 day Tour |

Day One Depart Edinburgh 9.30am From the capital we head north over the Forth Bridge (photo stop), through Fife, past Perth and into the Highlands. First stop is the Cathedral City of Dunkeld, sitting in the forest hills of Atholl. Then it is on to Pitlochry and a visit to Edradour distillery for a tour and tasting. After lunch it is on through the wild Grampian Mountains to the Cairngorm National Park. The day ends with a visit to the prehistoric Clava Cairns and the Culloden Battlefield, site of the last battle fought on British soil in 1746. Overnight – Inverness
Day Two From Inverness we head west and back in time, as we go into the ancient Caledonian Pineforest of Glenaffric. After a walk in the forest we will head down to Loch Ness for some Nessie spotting, and we include a visit to the visitor centre. After lunch we will drive down the lochside and then turn west through the hills of Kintail to the world famous Eilean Donan Castle for a visit. You will then cross over the bridge to the stunning Isle of Skye. We drive through the Red Cuillin Mountains to the island capital – Portree, with a wee dram stop at the Sligachan Hotel. Overnight – Portree
Day Three A full day to explore the beautiful, unique and magical Isle of Skye, a land of lore and Celtic myth. We begin the day with a walk up to the Old Man of Storr, and a visit to the Museum of Island life. After driving round the north of the island we will lunch at Dunvegan Castle (possibility to visit the castle), and then walk out to the nearby coral beaches. Then it is south along the breathtaking west coast to Talisker distillery. Before returning to Portree we will take in the majesty of the Black Cuillin Mountains. Overnight – Portree
Day Four We leave early and head south to catch the ferry back across to the Mainland. After a little time to see around the port of Mallaig we wind our way east along the picturesque coastline of white beaches and stunning views to Glenfinnan, where you will enjoy the jaw-dropping views down Loch Shiel, and look across to the railway bridge used in the Harry Potter films. Then it is on to Fort William, sitting in the shadow of Britain’s highest peak, the 4409ft Ben Nevis. After lunch we’ll visit the dramatic and haunting Glencoe, scene of the infamous massacre in 1692. From there we will cross the bleak Rannoch Moor, pass through the mountains of Breadalbane to Stirling (photo stop at the castle), and return to Edinburgh. |
