Three Day Whisky voyage
Day One
From Edinburgh we will head north over the
Forth Bridge, through Fife, past Perth and into the Highlands. This
land of mountain and forest
is home to some sublime whiskies, and we will stop at the Blair Athol
distillery for a tour and tasting. Then we will head north to Blair
Castle for a visit, before crossing the bleak Grampian Mountains to
Dalwhinnie where we will visit the highest distillery in Scotland.
The tour then winds down through the broad valley of Strathspey in
the shadow of the high Cairngorm Mountains to Aviemore, where we finish
the day with a walk in the ancient Caledonian Pine Forest
Overnight - Aviemore
Day Two
This day is spent exploring the distilleries
and countryside of Speyside, the spiritual home of whisky, where
every signpost reads a familiar
name. From Aviemore we head northeast through the pleasant farmland
to Glenlivet distillery for a tour; then it is on to Dufftown, the
malt capital of the world, and where we will visit Glenfiddich distillery
and the nearby ruin of Balvenie Castle. After lunch we will have a
short walk down to the River Spey. Then we cross the river and wind
our way to Cardhu and their famous distillery, the heart of Johnny
Walker. Then it is back along the ‘Back Road’ to Grantown-upon-Spey
for a dram before returning to Aviemore.
Overnight - Aviemore
Day Three
From Aviemore we head north to Inverness,
stopping at Culloden, site of the last battle on British soil, and
a chance to blow the cobwebs
away. From Inverness, we turn southwards to Loch Ness and historic
Urquhart Castle. This is our chance to do some Nessie spotting. After
lunch in Fort Augustus we will take you for a walk in the mountains,
before continuing south to Edinburgh, and a special whisky tasting,
or ghost tour.
